As part of WomenSing's
ongoing effort to encourage youth in the arts, participants
from the Cal Shakes Summer Theater Program will be joining
us for our March Concerts, Sounds and Sweet Airs, during the
West Coast premiere of Cary Ratcliff's Three Songs from
Shakespeare’s ‘A
Midsummer Night’s Dream’.
Saturday, March 15, 8:00 pm, Holy Names University Chapel,
Oakland
Sunday, March 16, 4:00 pm St. Mary's College Chapel, Moraga
Rooted in the same philosophy that guides their artistic
endeavors, Cal Shakes Summer Theater Programs offer quality
training from professional teaching artists-experienced teachers
who are
artists in their own right-in order to awaken and nurture
the power of creative thinking in learners, and to lay the
foundation for a lifelong interest in the arts.
With Shakespeare as their inspiration, participants in our
Summer Theater Programs (ages 8-18) spend the morning studying
acting, physical comedy, stage combat, movement, improvisation,
text,
and more; afternoons are for rehearsals, practicing and exploring
the scenes or plays that will be performed on each program's
final day.
This summer the five-week Conservatory program will be
held at Bentley School in Lafayette from June 16 to July
18. The
two-week Conservatory runs from July 28 to Aug 8 at Holy
Names High School in Oakland. There are two locations for
the two-week summer camps; the Orinda Community Center
(July 14 to July 25) and El Cerrito's Fairmont Elementary
(July
28 to Aug 8). All locations are BART accessible. For more
details or to register visit www.calshakes.org/camps.
Need-based scholarships are also available.
