As the world’s eyes turn toward, or away from, the conflicts that scar our globe, WomenSing invites you to reflect on our shared human responsibility to cultivate peace. Will peace on Earth come as a gift from above, or through human work and sacrifice here below?

This December, Peace on Earth explores the power of song to inspire compassion, empathy, and hope. Choral music has long been a way for people to process emotion, connect across differences, and find beauty amid hardship. Music reminds us of our capacity to create harmony in sound and in spirit.

The program features works that embody this transformative power. Sir John Tavener’s Song for Athene—performed at the funeral of Princess Diana—is a transcendent masterpiece of vocal color and serenity, lifting listeners into a realm of quiet reverence. Carrie Newcomer’s I Heard an Owl grounds us in the here and now, offering a heartfelt meditation on compassion, cooperation, and understanding. Tim Osiek’s Like a River in My Soul, based on the beloved spiritual I’ve Got Peace Like a River, flows with lush harmonies and gentle piano accompaniment, carrying us through the currents of peace, love, and joy.

These works, and others in the program, join together to express humanity’s enduring call to seek peace within ourselves and in the world around us. They invite us to ask what each of us can do to nurture peace in our daily lives, in our neighborhoods, at work, and among family. Amid the rush of the holiday season, let Peace on Earth offer you a moment of reflection and hope.
